Help build Oxfordshire’s local newsroom

Find the stories. Ask the questions. Make journalism that people across Oxfordshire hear, read and talk about.

Get Radio is an independent station broadcasting across Oxfordshire on DAB and online. We’re building our own local newsroom, and we’re looking for two journalists who want to help shape it.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your own stories, build a network of contacts and produce original reporting for radio, our website and digital platforms. Your patch will include the city of Oxford, the county’s towns, villages and rural communities, with a wide range of people, places and issues to cover.

We’re looking for curiosity, sound judgement and the determination to get beyond the first answer. Whether you’re newly qualified, developing your reporting career or bringing relevant practical experience, we’re interested in what you could bring to Get Radio.

We use modern newsroom technology to streamline production and publishing, giving our journalists more time to find, investigate and report the news.

What you’ll do

A flexible working environment

Our studios and offices are part of the newsroom. You’ll be welcome to work there regularly and expected to attend for some editorial meetings, production, training and collaborative work.

Working from home is also an option when it suits the work. You’ll need to travel throughout Oxfordshire for interviews and reporting, sometimes at short notice. We’ll take a practical approach to where you work, based on the story, individual preferences and newsroom needs.

The roles are 40 hours per week. Weekend coverage takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with responsibilities shared across the team. We’ll agree working patterns and time off together, taking individual preferences into account. Scheduled weekend work forms part of those hours.

Some early starts or evenings may also be needed for important stories and broadcast commitments.

What you’ll bring

An NCTJ qualification, broadcast training or equivalent experience would be welcome, alongside reporting, audio-editing or digital-publishing experience. Knowledge of Oxfordshire would also be useful. You don’t need to meet every desirable criterion to apply.

Make your next move with Get Radio

This is a chance to take responsibility for stories, develop your skills across radio and digital journalism, and help establish an independent local newsroom from the beginning.

Send us your CV, examples of your work and a short introduction explaining what you’d bring to Get Radio. Include an Oxfordshire story you’d like to pursue.
