Young people in Oxford’s Rose Hill will have the opportunity to create their own music using technology at special sessions taking place on Thursday 6 November.

The workshops, organised by Oxfordshire County Council’s music service, are aimed at children in school years 4 to 6 and girls aged 11 to 16. They build on the success of a similar project last year, which saw 15 participants produce 13 original tracks.

Using iPads and MacBook Pros equipped with digital audio workstation (DAW) software, participants will learn how to produce their own music. They will be able to record, mix, and perform tracks using loops, keyboards, and vocals in a portable recording studio setup.

Councillor Sean Gaul, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Blending technology with music is an exciting way to develop interest among young people, unlocking a creative talent they might not even know they possess, and who knows a future career as a recording artist or producer.”

Rose Hill Junior Youth Club works with communities in two of Oxfordshire’s most deprived wards, providing safe, creative and social activities for young people.

Aimee Winkfield, Interim Director at Rose Hill Junior Youth Club, said: “The music tech sessions are an absolutely fantastic addition to our after school youth clubs, and the young people really enjoyed creating their own tracks and dancing along with the beats they made before the summer holidays.”

The music tech workshops will resume this November, offering a new generation of budding musicians the chance to explore their creativity through sound and technology.
