Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House has been awarded the Green Key Award for the first time, recognising the hotel’s commitment to high environmental standards and responsible tourism.

The 77-bedroom boutique hotel in Iffley achieved the accreditation following detailed documentation and regular audits carried out by the internationally recognised Green Key programme, which is operated in the UK by Keep Britain Tidy.

Anuj Sagar, General Manager of Hawkwell House, said: “I’m proud we have achieved this highly respected accreditation that reflects our commitment to maintaining stringent sustainability practices at the hotel.

“Sustainability is an important part of our strategy and we’re dedicated to delivering an exceptional guest experience while minimizing our impact on the environment. A big thank you goes to our team who have all helped us achieve this milestone together.”

As part of its ongoing environmental initiatives, the hotel installed EV chargers last year in partnership with Oxfordshire-based operator EZ-Charge, providing charging facilities for guests, visitors and local residents.

Hawkwell House also offers all-day dining in its restaurant, lounge and terrace, alongside three event spaces available for weddings, meetings and private functions. It is currently taking bookings for the festive season and continues to serve Afternoon Tea and a Sunday Roast in Frank’s Restaurant and Terrace Bar.

Located three miles from Oxford rail station and close to Oxford’s southern bypass, the hotel aims to combine convenient access with a focus on sustainability for both leisure and business guests.
