The renowned charity store is seeking volunteers to help accommodate new opening days and is presenting an array of activities and budget-friendly meals for kids this October half-term.

Oxfam’s flagship superstore, centrally located off Garsington Road in Cowley, is excited to announce its extension to six days a week operational hours and a plethora of activities and offers, specially designed for the upcoming October half-term. This decision comes as a direct response to the growing customer demand since the innovative concept store first opened its doors in 2019.

Richard Williams, the Store Manager, shared insights into the decision: “The store has been buzzing, selling more than 4,300 items a week. We observed people eagerly waiting at the doors on the days we were closed, prompting us to expand our opening hours to cater to our customers’ needs.”

However, to maintain the extended hours and offer optimal service, the store is calling out for retail volunteers. “Oxfam volunteers contribute significantly every shift. They are involved in a spectrum of roles from visual merchandising, working on the till, managing the shop’s Instagram account, to sorting donations. Volunteering with us is a chance to learn new skills, make friends, gain valuable experience, and actively support Oxfam’s transformative work globally,” emphasized Williams.

New Opening Hours:

  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday to Saturday: 09:30-17:30 (Thursday until 19:30)
  • Sunday: 10:30-16:30

This half-term, the store is bustling with activities including a DJ late-night shopping experience on 26th October, and face painting sessions on the 28th. Additionally, kids under 12 can enjoy £1 meals with fruit with any café purchase throughout the week. The store also extends a warm invitation to carers (unpaid, paid, parents, and guardians) across Oxford on the 28th for a complimentary slice of cake and a discussion on Oxfam’s new ‘Time to Care’ campaign focusing on enhancing carers’ rights.

Oxfam staff will be engaging with visitors during half-term week, providing insights into their ongoing projects locally and globally, and facilitating various challenges and activities on the shop floor.

“The generosity of the Oxford community never ceases to amaze us. We receive approximately 1500 donations a week, which is remarkable and substantially higher than the average Oxfam store,” remarked Richard.

Besides shopping for vintage fashion bargains and ethical gifts, visitors can relish the community events held at the in-house Watertank café, which significantly impact local and global communities. The store even offers free collection services for furniture and bulky items.
